CMT 4" Cross Slide Drill Press Vise Metal Milling Machine
Home Improvement (CMT)
2003-06-04 05:01:04 by MeM

I'll confine myself to power tools.

I would get them in this order:
(1) 14.4 volt or higher, 3/8" or 1/2" cordless drill. You already have a drill; if it is plug-in, you can make do with it and a long extension cord, say 50 ft or more, until you tire of dragging the thing around with you.
(2) 7 1/4" hand held, top-handle (not worm-drive, back-handle) circular saw, aka "Skilsaw." See thread of last 2 days or so for more det...amazingly versatile. You can mount the following heads on it: metal-grinding; metal-cutting; masonry-grinding;masonry-cutting; wire cup brush; wire disc brush; other shaped brushes and grindstones; a chain-saw like circular blade to rapidly gouge out wood; a 1" wide detail sanding belt; buffing wheels; sanding wheels;and probably a few other things I have either forgotten or don't know about yet

What do you think would be my best bet for dust collection and air filtration? Also what kind of equipment do you think would be essential. Now this is more for recreational purposes not professional wood working. Now I have a table saw, miter saw, radial arm saw, routers/ router table and all kinds of hand tools. I already know I will need. Drill press band saw jointed and a planner, did I miss anything important?

    • For dust management, a dedicated vacuum system, with a pick-up tube near the major points of use.
Wall mounted units work pretty well without using floor space. For fumes, check out a "squirrel cage" exhaust fan.
Your tools are already gettin' good. If not already there, …/bench-top-drill-press-table" title="Bench top Drill Press table">bench top sander (belt and rotary combo), a serious bunch of clamps (pipe, beam, edge, band, etc.), and maybe a little compressor and an 'air nailer.

Next thing you'll be wanting a separate building...

When I was growing up long-distance calls were luxuries for us, reserved for a holiday or if we were either planning a visit out of state or having visitors to get the details. Plane trips were for the wealthy, fur coats, eating out on a regular basis, and going to a salon for nails. All these things are common today. Got any more?

    • My mother used to get permanents every few months. People had huge homes with wood floors and fireplaces. My dad got a new car every three years. Going for a massage. Taking a vacation. Leather coats, floor length gowns, diamonds, silk bedspreads, French perfume, blinds and heavy duty draperies, large basements with a fruit cellar, several bathrooms, a pool, tv's, stereos, owning land in Florida, traveling and educating in Europe. Indoor plumbing, indoor bathroom, central air, attached garage, electric heat, automatic washer and dryer.
